911 and power outages — please read this part

Digital phone is not the same as the old copper line, and the difference matters in an emergency. We would rather you know now than find out later.

Digital phone does not work when the power is out. The old copper line drew power from the telephone exchange; this one draws it from your house. A battery backup on the adapter and the router keeps the phone working for about eight hours, and we sell one for $89.00. If anyone at the address depends on a telephone for medical reasons, talk to us before you switch.

911 address
Your 911 record is registered to the service address on the account. If you move the adapter to a different building, dispatchers will still be sent to the registered address until you tell us to change it.
Changing the registered address
Call (307) 902-8233 or email support@neweratele.com. The change takes effect within one business day and we confirm it in writing.
911 during an internet outage
Calls will not complete. Keep a mobile phone available as a fallback. We do not charge for the 911 service itself; the state 911 fee appears on the bill because the state requires it.
Vulnerable customers
Tell us if someone at the address depends on the line for a medical alert system. We flag the account for priority restoration at no extra charge and check on it during known outages.

Keeping your number

  1. Do not cancel your old service first. A number can only be ported away from an active account. Cancel it and the number is gone for good.
  2. Send us a recent bill from the current carrier. We need the account number and the service address exactly as they appear on it.
  3. We submit the port and give you a date. Usually seven to ten business days. You keep using the old line the whole time.
  4. The adapter is installed and the number cuts over. Fifteen minutes, and we stay on the line while you make a test call in each direction.
  5. The old account closes automatically. A completed port cancels the old service. Check the final bill, and call us if the previous carrier keeps billing.
